My 720 mile challenge

As a celebration of my 60th year on this planet I've decided to race 1 mile for every month I've been alive: 60 * 12 = 720 - simple.

I've set some rules: the miles must be off-road, so road race don't count, they must be part of a recognised race with a mass start and a pre-defined distance (barring getting lost!), so mountain marathons don't count, and the races must be 10 miles or more, so the Shropshire summer series doesn't count.

I'm not up to doing a real challenge like the 'Bob' or the 'Paddy' so this is what I came up with. The idea is to have done the 720 miles between my 59th and 60th birthdays, so the last qualifying race will be the Trigs next year - Bob, you better not cancel it!

I've identified 26 races to make up the distance, the first being the Long Mynd Valleys last weekend. The biggest challenge may well be not being divorced by the end! The impact on the social calendar is huge.

The anticipated races are: Long Mynd Valleys (11 miles) , Anglezarke Amble (24), Beacon Bash (21), South Shropshire Circular (26), Wuthering Hike (31), Hardmoors 55 (55), Kipling Kaper (28), Calderdale Hike (37), Moelwyns (10), Three Peaks (25), Fellsman (61), Clun Valley (25), Cader Idris (10), Welsh 1000's (22), Long Tour of Bradford (32), Brecon Beacons (19), Across Wales (45), Wistanstow (26), High Peak 40 (40), Black Mountains (17), Long Mynd Hike (50-ish), Round Rotherham (50), Roaches (15), Mortimer Forest (10), Shropshire Seasonal Saunter (19), Trigs (15).
