Mercia Fell Runners Club

Steve Cale of Shrewsbury AC rounded off a superb series with a fine run at The Ragleth Inn Race, in very wet and slippery conditions, Steve managed to get within 3 seconds of Mark James' course record, to prove he was the rightful series champion, In the series he ended up 9 points head of Paul Jones of Oswestry and 13 points ahead of Ian Grindley, Both Paul and Ian had their rewards, by winning their respective age category group.
In the ladies race things were much closer, Mel Price of Mercia went into the race just 3 points ahead of last years winner Anna Barlett, with both runners in fine form, a good race was on, on the night Anna came out victorious leading by 1 minute 1 second and 3 places ahead of Mel, the final result of the series was to hang on previous race results. The series is run over 6 races, and with only 4 to count it meant they could both drop their lowest previous score, the result being that Mel hung on to claim overall victory.
That was not the only tight battle going on that night, Kev Frances came from behind to take second place in the M40 Category from Mark Agnew, In the M55 Andrew Hearle and Graham Spence had been nip and tuck all season, Andrew was just a little ahead with the one race to go, but a fine run by Graham saw him leapfrog into second position behind the winner Ed Davies. Even in the M60 class there is  fierce competition going on, all beit at a slightly slower pace, Tom Davies of Croft Ambry and David Edwards of Telford Harries end up with a dead heat, sharing second place behind Gary Gunner
