Callow Race - 1st July 2012

No-one would have guessed from the weather that it was July: it was more like April or October than last year's scorcher. But Russell and Jane put on another fabulous race yesterday. I'm still overcoming a couple of technical hitches with the results but hope to have them up tomorrow. Roland Stafford won the race in 60:42, with Tom Roo second and Ed Davies third. Mel Price was fourth overall and first lady in a superb time of 64:06. It was good to see Matt Clewes and Paul Cadman both running well in 5th and 6th places.

Ed turned up about a minute before the race started and then nearly managed to reach the footbridge first after hurdling the barbed wire fence next to the first stile. He cleared it by miles, which is probably a good idea if you're going to do that kind of thing! The Mercia B relays team from last year had a good day with only one member absent, managing 1st, 2nd, 6th, 14th and 16th places overall.

It was great to see a large contingent (7 runners) from Helsby Running Club who have this race on their fell champs calendar for 2012, and also a decent turnout from Croft Ambrey.
