You are invited to take part in Wrekin Orienteer Long Mynd Challenge.
A permanent Orienteering course will be available on the Long Mynd between the above dates.
There will be two courses---Short at about 6 miles and a long at about 8 miles. The above distances are in a straight line between the controls. Actual running distance is likely to be 25%
more than this.
You will need Ordnance Survey Map of the Long Mynd at 1/25000.

PARKING—Carding Mill Valley between bridge and Visitor Centre is best. £2 charge

START--- Go inside Visitor Centre, open from 9am, and on left wall there will be a notice giving Grid Ref and Description of the first control site.

CONTROLS--- At each control will be a red and white peg with GR and Desc. of next control. At control number 3 there will be two pegs giving the option of short or long.

FINAL CONTROL--- At the final there will be a code number. Please e-mail post or phone quoting the code and giving names of all finishers together with contact details.
Also I would like if possible details of your run.- ie day, date, weather, time between controls and finish time and anything else of interest. If I can understand the info it will be published on Wrekin O website.
All finishers so reporting will be entered in a raffle for nice prize.

SAFETY—Most importantly you should be aware that you undertake the challenge entirely at your own risk! There are no checks as to who takes part.
The Long Mynd is a wild remote place, especially in bad weather, which can come in very quickly, so please watch the weather forecast and BE PREPARED.
If you have any doubts as to what you should wear or carry get hold of, read, and take notice of any book on Hill Walking in Winter.

Please send your finish details to morris at southolme.freeserve.co.uk, or post to Southolme, Rodington, Shrewsbury, SY4 4QX. Tel.01952 770321.

We acknowledge with thanks the co-operation of the National Trust in allowing this to take place.
Enjoy your trip
