The latest League Table from The Shropshire Hills Winter Series 2007/2008 are now posted for viewing on the results page of the website, Roland Stafford has taken the lead in the men's competition for the first time following his excellent run at the Carding Mill Canter replacing Pete Ball who has been in the lead ever since the second race of the year at The Wrekin Wrecker, the two of them will now need to go all out on the last race to see who can win the Series, they will need to keep an eye out for Tim Werrett, Andi Davies and Pete Vale who have only completed two races so far, but with

Report from Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening - 1st March 2008

Nearly 60 people gathered together at the Longville Hotel near Much Wenlock to celebrate a great year for Mercia Fell Runners, everyone was in very good spirits and it transpired to be one of the most successful dinners of recent years.  Phil and Sue Blatch together with Kath Thompson helped Pauline to decorate the room in a yellow and black tribute to Club colours, and with balloons, flowers for the ladies, music and candles the scene was set for a splendid evening.

2008 Cardingmill Canter, Results

Results are now up for viewing on the results web page, a good turn out on warm dry but blustery day saw Tim Werret race home ahead of Pete Vale and Roland Stafford, all from Mercia Fell Runners, Ian Hughes from Shrewsbury AC was 4th and first male over 40, Ed Davies from Mercia was first M50 and 6th overall, but the performance of the day came from Welsh International Anna Bartlett who was 1st lady, 10th overall and took 30 seconds off the Ladies Course Record

Club Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening

1st March 2008 - 7.30
The Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening for Mercia Club Members is this year to be held at the Longville Arms near Church Stretton, and 50+ Mercians are expected to gather to enjoy good food, good wine and good company.  We are, as in the past, holding the Dinner after the Cardingmill Canter with many members "staying over" and making a  packed weekend.   Let's hope for good weather and a good turnout for the race.  Hope to see you there.

The next Mercia Race will be the Carding Mill Canter on Saturday 1st of March, the Course starts and finishes in the Cardingmill Valley and follows a route devised some 10 years ago by local runner Gill Harris, although billed as a 4 mile race it's possibly closer to 5 and as the record time of 37minutes and 35seconds set by Tim Davies suggests it is a tough little race, the Course has been used as a English Championships race on one occasion although in that year we did have to lengthen it slightly as the National Trust was concerned about so many runners using the steeper descents, we have n

Shropshire Hill Winter Series 2007 - 2008 After 4 Races

The latest positions are now available for the Winter Series after 4 Races, Peter Ball and Anna Bartlett both from Shrewsbury AC lead the SM & SL respectiveley, with Roger Lamb & Julie Cowley from Mercia heading the Vet 40's but with 2more races, The Cardingmill Canter on March 1st & The Wrekin Fell Race on April 13th many places could still change, remember it the best 3 race to count, so far 419 different runners have competed in on of this seasons races, 66 have done two, 34 have done three and 13 have done all four.

Rick's Relays - Sunday 10th February

The inaugural run of RICK'S RELAYS took place in balmy sunshine, with eight teams lining up in Carding Mill Valley on the Sunday morning, being waived off in fine style by friends, family and a host of visitors to the popular National Trust Valley.
