Shropshire Weekend Results and Photo's

Pete Vale, Tim Werrett and Ricky Graham

None of the forecasted snow arrived as predicted by weathermen and the organisers' fears of a small turnout disappeared and lots of fell runners turned up from far and wide, 70 braved the icy conditions for the 25th running of The Titterstone Clee Race on Saturday, with Simon Bailey leading a field that included 23 runners from Springfield Striders.

Midfield view of the Long Mynd Valleys race 2008

The backwards facing camera, I was caught on film taking this shot, I can be seen later in cycling hat!!!

Some of you doing this race may have noticed a guy amongst you with a weird looking thing on his head - it was a rearward facing camera set to take a picture every 5 seconds (they don't call me 'gizmo' for nothing!). Of the 1,330 pictures it took before the batteries went flat, the bulk are no good because my head was jigging around too much for it to focus properly, but a few are good enough to show. Here they are:

Non of the forcast snow as arrived in Shropshire, so its all systems go for Sundays Race, the forcast is for rain overnight, clearing by 9:00am in the morning, leaving drier but windy conditions, temperatures will only reach around 2C, but in the wind that will feel more like -2C. So wrap up warm, FULL WATERPROOF KIT IS MANDATORY,

Titterstone Clee Race - road conditions 9am Saturday 2nd Feb

Very light dusting of snow. Roads a bit slippy on Clee Hill. Great care will be needed on the final decent from the Church in Cleeton-St-Mary to the start area.
In general, no problem. There is no reason from a weather point of view not to come.

Snow What Snow

Shropshire dawned this morning to bright blue sky's and a thick frost, but very little snow, however the temperature is -1 in the valley and with the cold wind it feels much lower, we see little problem with todays race at Titterstone Clee, but do please expect to be told to carry full kit, we will try and update the website at 9:30 with local road conditions for this mornings race, and again this evening with information on expected weather conditions for the Long Mynd Valleys Race, a final weather check will appear on our website again just before 9:00am on Sunday the 3rd Feb

Weather Forcast for Saturday on Titterstone Clee

Severe weather is forecast for Friday evening with probable snow, hopefully it will clear by Saturday lunch time, but one of our fears is about people getting to Cleeton St Marys and being able park safely, the other is the wind chill factor, temperatures for Saturday in Ludlow are predicted to be 0C, but feeling more like -5C, on top of the hill it will be considerably colder, full waterproof/ windproof body cover will be mandatory for all starters if this is the case, we will endeavour to put a notice on the website early on Saturday morning about road conditions in the area
